
Meet the Author
Maurice Hicks grew up navigating the harsh and often dangerous streets of Baltimore, where he worked hard to steer clear of the pitfalls that claimed many of his peers. An introvert by nature, Maurice dedicated his early years to avoiding the destructive forces that plagued inner-city youth.
With over 20 years of dedicated service in Maryland law enforcement, Maurice Hicks is a distinguished professional known for his extensive experience and accomplishments. He served as the lead investigator for the FBI Safe Streets Homicide Task Force for nearly three years.
Maurice’s career in law enforcement spans a range of roles, including patrol officer, sergeant, commander, detective, detective sergeant, and detective lieutenant. He has worked in several key units within the police department, such as Street Narcotics, Major Narcotics, Intelligence, Robbery, and Homicide.
Throughout his career, Maurice has earned numerous awards and commendations, including two Chief’s Awards of Merit and a Veterans of Foreign Wars Award, recognizing his exceptional contributions to public safety in Baltimore City and Prince George’s County.
Maurice holds a master’s degree in Management from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor’s degree in Criminology from the University of Maryland, Global Campus. He has been an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland, Global Campus for 22 years, teaching courses in criminal investigation and various police and security-related subjects. Additionally, Maurice has held several roles at the university, including Course Chair and Peer Mentor.
For the past 15 years, Maurice has successfully operated a private detective agency in Maryland and Nevada. He earned the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) Certification in October 2006. Maurice is also a proud father of five and a grandfather to seven.
